Mastery Journal #1

One of my favorite assignments in this course was creating the public service announcement (PSA). It challenged me to think beyond simply sharing information and instead focus on how to create a message that could genuinely connect with an audience. I enjoyed learning how to combine storytelling, visuals, and social media strategies to communicate an important message in a way that was engaging and meaningful. Since I am interested in using media to create positive change, this assignment felt the most relevant to my personal and professional goals.

The topics that I believe will be most helpful to me as a future public relations professional are digital public relations, social media strategy, and content creation. This course showed me that public relations is no longer limited to press releases or traditional media. Today's PR professionals must understand how to build relationships with audiences across multiple digital platforms while creating content that is timely, authentic, and interactive. Learning how to tailor messages for different social media platforms and understanding how digital communication influences public perception will be valuable skills throughout my career.

The knowledge I gained this month has given me a stronger understanding of what it takes to succeed in today's public relations industry. I now recognize the importance of strategic communication, audience engagement, and maintaining a consistent brand message across digital platforms. The course also strengthened my ability to think critically about how campaigns are planned, executed, and evaluated. I feel more confident collaborating with other public relations professionals because I have a better understanding of industry expectations, digital communication tools, and the role that creativity plays in developing effective campaigns. Overall, this class has provided me with practical skills that I can apply in future public relations roles and has reinforced the importance of adapting to the constantly evolving digital landscape.
